The leading cultural association KALA-Kuwait conducted the main programme for the year 2012 Thathwamazi in a very impressive manner. The progamme was dedicated to the glorious memories of late Dr. Sukumar Azhikode, the great orator, scholar and humanitarian of Kerala.
The guests and dignitaries were welcomed by traditional lamps with floral decorations and ‘chenda melam’, followed by the display of KALA emblem ‘Girl with Lamp’. Thereafter the inaugural function was précised over by KALA president K. Vinod while Saji Thomas Mathew, Gen Secretary welcomed.
Indian Embassy first secretary and distinguished guest Hon. Vidhu P Nair inaugurated Thathwamazi. Chief Guest V.V Dakshina Moorthy, the KALA Trust chairman handed over the Sambasivan Memorial KALA-Trust award for the year 2012 to world famous cartoonist Yesudasan. While addressing, Mr. Moorthy narrated the socio-political situation of Kerala. Further he formally inaugurated the yearly Free Malayalam Education Programme of KALA, for the 22nd year. He narrated the importance of mother tongue and its relevance in the current scenario. Replying on the occasion, Yesudasan enthralled the audience with his unique style of oration. Malayalam Education Programme organizing committee General Convener J Albert presented a brief report on the programme.
The multi-colour souvenir on the occasion was handed over to the Gulf Mart General Manager Mr. T.A Ramesh by souvenir committee convener J.Saji and he released the same by handing over the first copy to the famous singer of Kerala, Kallara Gopan. Thereafter, V.V. Dakshinamoorthy released the Identity Card for KALA-Members by handing over the first IC Card to P.R Babu.
Shyamala Narayanan, Vanithavedi General Secretary, master Aravind of Balavedi, Hilal of IOC, Basheer Batha of KKMCC, John Mathew, Malayil Moosa Koya, Raghunathan Nair, Sanal of 98.4 UFM Station Head and Balakalamela Gen Convener Naganadhan felicitated the function.
Benji Benson Memorial Rolling Trophy to the school with maximum points scored for KALA Balakamela-2012 conducted on 27 April and May 4, 2012 was received by Hon Principal of Bharathiya Vidyabhavan accompanied by teachers and students from KALA-trust Chairman VV Dakshina Moorthy. It is specially to be mentioned that BVS bagged the Benji Benson Rowling trophy for the 4th consecutive time. Well known Cartoonist Yesudasan handed over the trophies for Kalaprathibha Prathik Pratheesh and KALA-Thilakam Sheethal Rajeev Menon. Thereafter the individual trophies of Balakalamela winners were distributed.
The inaugural function concluded with the vote of thanks by programme committee general convener T.V Hikmath, followed by the display of several cultural items such as Mohiniyattam, Folk dance, Group dance, Skit, inspiring group song with the theme of National integration. The high light of the programme was the Drama enacted by the arts wing of KALA. The audience were enthralled by the nostalgic, memorable and melodious songs by famous artists from Kerala, Kallara Gopan, Preetha Kannan and troop.

"കല"യുടെ സൗജന്യ മാതൃഭാഷാ പഠനപദ്ധതിയുടെ ക്ലാസുകളുടെ ഉദ്ഘാടനം വി വി ദക്ഷിണാമൂര്ത്തി നിര്വഹിച്ചു. തത്വമസി സുവനീര് ഗള്ഫ്മാര്ട്ട് കണ്ട്രി ഹെഡ് രമേഷ് സുവനീര് കമ്മിറ്റി കണ്വീനര് ജെ സജിയില്നിന്ന് ഏറ്റുവാങ്ങി പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്തു. കലയുടെ അംഗങ്ങള്ക്കുള്ള തിരിച്ചറിയല് കാര്ഡിന്റെ വിതരണോദ്ഘാടനം പി ആര് ബാബുവിന് കാര്ഡ് നല്കി വി വി ദക്ഷിണാമൂര്ത്തി നിര്വഹിച്ചു. സാംസ്കാരിക സമ്മേളനം ഇന്ത്യന് എംബസി ഫസ്റ്റ് സെക്രട്ടറി വിധു പി നായര് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. കല പ്രസിഡന്റ് കെ വിനോദ് അധ്യക്ഷനായി. മാധ്യമവിഭാഗം സെക്രട്ടറി ബിനീഷ് കെ ബാബു, മാതൃഭാഷാ ജനറല് കണ്വീനര് ജെ ആല്ബര്ട്ട്, ജനറല് സെക്രട്ടറി സജി തോമസ് മാത്യു എന്നിവര് സംസാരിച്ചു.

വരകളിലൂടെ മലയാളിയെ നേരും നർമവും അനുഭവിപ്പിച്ച മഹാനായ കാർട്ടൂണിസ്റ്റാണ് യേശുദാസനെന്ന് ജൂറി വിലയിരുത്തി. കാർട്ടൂൺ ജനപ്രിയമാക്കാൻ അതുല്യ സംഭാവന നൽകിയ യേശുദാസൻ അരനൂറ്റാണ്ടിലേറെയായി ഈ രംഗത്തെ നിറസാന്നിദ്ധ്യമാണ്. ശക്തമായ സാമൂഹ്യവിമർശം കാർട്ടൂണിലൂടെ പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിച്ച് മലയാള മനസ്സുകളിൽ ചിന്തയും ചിരിയും പ്രദാനം ചെയ്യുന്നതാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സൃഷ്ടികളെന്ന് ജൂറി വിലയിരുത്തി. വി.വി. ദക്ഷിണാമൂർത്തി അധ്യക്ഷനും കെ. മോഹനൻ, എം.പി. അച്യുതൻ, ലെനിൻ രാജേന്ദ്രൻ എന്നിവരടങ്ങിയ ജൂറിയാണ് അവാർഡ് ജേതാവിനെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത്.

Trivandrum, May 31, 2012: Kuwait Kala Trust's V Sambasivan Memorial Award to be presented to cartoonist Yesudasan. The award consisting of a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a plaque will be presented to him at a function organised in Kuwait on June 1, 2012, informed VV Dakshinamurthy, the Trust Chairman.
The award committee observed that "Yesudasan is one of the finest cartoonists who made Malayalis experience both truth and humour through his social and political criticism. He succeeded in making cartoon a popular art through his efforts in the last five decades." Cartoonist Yesudasan was selected for this award by a committee comprising of VV Dakshimamurthy, K Mohanan, MP Achyuthan, Lenin Rajendran. The press meet at Trivandrum Press Club was attended by Madhu Elamaad, Treasurer A Sajeevan, and the former secretary of the organisation R Ramesh.
