River Patrolling Revived at Periyar
(Design & People, July 25, 2010)

It was a joyful moment for Periyar Riverkeeper when the river patrolling was revived today with a newly-purchased wooden boat. The Riverkeeper Patrolling and Riverkeeper Action Circle were inaugurated this evening by Kerala’s renowned Political Cartoonist Yesudasan at a colourful event at Eloor Ferry.

VJ Jose, the Periyar Riverkeeper introduced the event by telling his stories and his connection with the dying River. He thanked Friends of Riverkeeper, a newly-formed informal group of Riverkeeper supporters from different parts of the world for taking the initiative to buy a wooden boat and to build an Action Circle. Cartoonist Yesudasan spoke briefly about his association with Jose and the river. He inaugurated the River Patrolling and the Action Circle by cutting a ribbon. A gathering of the members of Eloor Ferry Resident’s Association (EFRA), Kudumbasree and Design & People along with supporters and well-wishers of Periyar Riverkeeper were present to bless the occasion.
